Nursing – A Stressful Job

One of the most difficult career choices that people make today is in the healthcare profession. Not only are the emergency rooms a lot more busy than they used to be, but they are also way understaffed, putting intense pressure on those individuals who are working in them. The nurses who are working in these situations tend to put in very long and stressful hours and it is imperative that they find a way to manage their stress and the stressful situations that plague them. Stress management for nurses is important, as most individuals do not know what it is going to be like when they decide to go into the field of work.

The biggest concern for nurses having too much stress in their lives is the vast amount of overtime hours that they are having to work. The easy solution for this is just not to work overtime. But that will not be a reality while there is such a shortage of nurses in the country. A healthcare facility simply will not be able to run without a large enough nursing staff and so when there is not a large amount of nursing staff, it causes the ones who are there to work long hours to make up for the lack of staff. This puts great pressure on them, which causes stress, leading them to have to find ways to both tend their patients and manage their own stress at the same time. Stress management for nurses should be taught before they enter the field to give them a better idea of what they are getting into and ways that they can handle it.

The other big concern for stress in nurses is that they constantly have to deal with the problems and pain of others. Though they knew this when they decided to become a nurse, it can often still be overwhelming. A great way for a nurse to deal with the intense stress that they are under is for them to have someone they can talk to about it all. Whether it be a coworker or a therapist. Many of the things that nurses have to deal with on a daily basis are confidential, so it makes it hard for them to be able to discuss their stresses with their close friends and family members.

It is hard for society to view nurses as human beings and it will greatly help to relieve their stresses once people treat them like they are human and have feelings and stresses as well. Some of the things that they need is time alone, an ear to hear them, and to know that they are important and appreciated.

Workplace Stress

The workplace can be a serious and common place that causes many, many people very heavy stress in their lives. It can become overwhelming because whether it is stressful or not, people still have to go to their jobs every day. It is imporatnat that you become familiar with some of the causes, as this is the first step in doing what you need to to try and minimize the amount of stress that is sufferend in the workplace.

The biggest cause of workplace stress is that many people are unhappy with the job itself. Statistically, most people are unhappy with their current job, whether it be the actual company itself or be the current position that they are holding within the company.

Another big cause of immense stress in the workplace is stress of a job load that is too large or too small to handle. This causes doubt in the management, which can lead to whole new stresses. People who feel that they have to large a workload worry all the time that they will not get everything done and that if they do, it will not be done properly or on time. People who have too little a workload are often bored with their job and will end up feeling inadequate as they feel management dioes not trust them to do bigger tasks.

When you are in this type of situation, you may feel like there is nothing you can do about it. However, if it is a problem, you should try talking to your supervisor or manager and find out if there is not siomehting that can be done to rectify the situation. Most managers will do their best to try and keep their employees at a low stress level, as this will cause more productivity.

Another big factor of workplace stress is when employees feel that they are being underappreciated. When you feel like you are slaving away to get nothing in return, this can cause high levels of stress and can also cause self confidence problems that will grow and grow. It is imperative that everyone in the workplace be given the respect they deserve for the job that they do.

Workplace stress must be dealt with. Though it seems like there is no solution for it, relaxation exercises is a good place to start. Taking five minutes to close your eyes and relax can be very calming and relaxing. Another great thing you can do is to take a quick walk around the block during your break. This will get you some fresh air, which is great for relievnin stress, and it also gets you away from the stressful situation for a few minutes, allowing you tio think about other things. Whatever you do, find something that can take you away from the stresses, even for five minutes and you will find it much easier to get through the day.

Does Stress Cause Hives?

Hives are an allergic reaction on the skin, causing a rash of round, bumpy lesions. They can appear in minutes and can go away in minutes or can last for hours. Many people link hives to stress and many others wonder if stress really can cause this type of allergic reaction.

When liquid from the capillaries leaks into surrounding tissue of the top layer of the skin, the result is the hive rash. They will not go away until the fluid is absorbed into the body. They tend to be very itchy, mostly because the reaction is happening at the very topmost layer of the skin. This layer has many, many nerve endings which tend to be very sensitive.

The easy answer to the question of whether stress can cause hives, is yes it can. Because the skin is the body’s largest organ, it is extremely sensitive. When we have a lot of stress in our lives, it is pretty safe to guess that it will affect our body’s largest organ as well. When we undergo a lot of stress in our lives, it changes the whole chemical balance of our body causing the chemistry to create a hormonal imbalance. This chemical imbalance plays a major role in complete health of the body, which also affects the skin.

Treating hives effectively is rather easy to do. there are several different ways we can do this. However, that being said, if we have hives due to stress, it is also important to pinpoint the reasons of the stress and deal with that as well, or the hives may just keep coming back.

There are two different types of hives, so to effectively treat them, we must know which of the two types we are dealing with. The two types are physical and ordinary. Ordinary hives tend to come on suddenly when there seems to be no reason for them  to appear. Physical hives, on the other hand, happen when something has stimulated the epidermis. They can be caused by a variety of different factors, such as cold, sunlight, heat or sweat.

The first step in treating hives is generally to take an over-the-counter antihistamine. this will provide almost immediate relief, but it is not a long term one. If the hives are not dealt with, they may return once the medication has worn off. There are also several herbal and natural treatments available for hives and these can be purchased through a naturopath or at a health supplement store.

One of the best things we can do to prevent hives from appearing is to take excellent care of our skin. this is a daily habit. Every day, we should wash our faces with a balanced cleanser and make sure to properly moisturize. we can also help to take care of our skin by eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise. Keeping the skin on our bodies clean is the best way to prevent future breakouts.

Make Your Own Stress Balls

We all experience stress in our lives. Some experience it in much higher doses or at a severely more inclined level than others, but it is something that every human being has to deal with at some point. In fact, stress is a normal factor of everyday life and it is something that, in small doses, we learn to live with. It would actually appear that something was really missing from our lives if there was absolutely no stress. Stress can cause us to achieve great things, make a big deadline on time or help us to ask the questions that will affect the rest of our lives.

Making a stress ball is fairly simple. Take a small, round balloon and blow it up about five inches around. While pinching the end of the balloon shut, place a funnel inside. Slide cornstarch into the funnel, slowly let go of the balloon, allowing the cornstarch to enter the balloon. Keep doing this until the balloon is filled about three inches around. Tie the balloon closed and stretch another balloon over the top of it and tie that one as well. The stress ball is now finished and can be decorated any way you please, if at all.

Vibratory Stress Relief Machine

In this day and age, there are many companies out there offering several different forms of stress relief. It is an explosive market and there are companies out there that would like to make money off of hurting and sick people. They are all marketed as new and improved solutions, and though not all are bad, some are very highly priced. one of these is the vibratory stress machine. This has been proven to actually work but is very expensive. The price to own one of these is anywhere form three hundred dollars to seventeen hundred dollars. That is a lot of money to put out for stress relief, especially since a lot of stress is brought on by finances in the first place.

One of the best ways to deal with the price of the machine is to go out and join a spa or health club that already has some of the machines. they ,ay even have programs in place for members that include the vibratory stress machine along with other treatment methods and classes, such as yoga.

The great thing about using a stress relief vibratory machine is that you need to spend only fifteen minutes using it per day to get all of the benefits that it has to offer. The machine looks a lot like a regular treadmill, but comes with a pad instead of a track. To use it, you must stand on the pad while gripping the handles. They machines work at various speeds and the speeds can be increased once you are used to them. Stress Management Journal

Stress is something that everyone has to deal with from time to time. It can be very difficult to cope with it. It is much easier to deal with stress once you admit that you have a problem with it. Once the problem has been addressed, the next step is to look into solutions to relieve it. One thing that has worked time and time again is to keep a stress management journal. Obviously, the first thing one has to do in this case is to pick up a blank journal. These can be found at any office supply store or ay stationary store. A favorite is the black scientific journal as they are a good size and are hardy for making daily notes in.

The easiest thing to do is to write the date in the top corner of the page and then continue to mark the date on every page after that. It makes an individual feel more accountable for writing in it every day if the date has already been put in. On the first few pages, everything and anything that is even remotely stressful should be written down. For the first week, this is all that should be done. It is not the time to try to start finding solutions for the stress, but it is the time just to pinpoint the stresses that are there. It gives a more vivid picture of what is actually going on in life that is causing the stress. Once this has been done for a week, there will probably be noticeable patterns as to what activities are causing stress and what people and so on.

The second week is the time to start trying to change some of the behaviors that have been causing the stress. Whenever something is done to try and change it, it should be recorded in the journal. Once this week is through then one can see that changes they have been making and can make a good judgment on whether they are having a positive effect, a negative effect or no effect at all. If they are not making a positive effect, it is important to do something different and to keep recording all of the changes in the stress journal.

One of the greatest benefits of the stress journal is that it lets the individual look at the stress and causes at a time when the stresses are not necessarily there. In fact, when one is feeling relaxed, that is a good time to pick up the journal and read through it. it may just be the best time to come up with solutions to the problems, as they will probably not seem so overwhelming when one is relaxed.

Keeping track every day is the key to success on the stress journal. Many people are able to use these to solve their own problems, saving them tens of thousands of dollars on medical help and therapy.

Games to Relieve Stress

The definition of stress is basically what we put our body through each and every day. Stress is not always a bad thing, as there are also forms of good stress. While stress usually has some problems that go along with it, everyone experiences stress, even if just a little bit, every day. It is completely normal to go through a little bit of stress and can actually be healthy for the body.

Beyond what is normal, there comes a point when stress can become difficult to handle when it becomes too much for an individual. When this is the case, a variety of different problems could arise and cause problems emotionally as well as physically. If left unattended, it can even lead to something more serious, such as depression.

Though there are many different things one can do for stress management, using games to relieve stress is one of the better options. The thing that is so great about using games is that it is not only helping to relieve stress in everyday life, it is also fun and that certainly cannot hurt.

A favorite of many people is online games. These can be a lot of fun, but one must be careful, as they can become quite addicting. When this happens, people tend to not use their time wisely and can actually end up causing more stress for themselves, when they do not get their daily tasks accomplished.

One of the best games for helping with stress management are crossword puzzles. When an individual is focused on solving crossword puzzle clues, they tend to tune out all other thoughts and focus only on the puzzle at hand. Crossword puzzles help to improve memory and vocabulary, so have numerous benefits.

Other games, in which you use your mind, like chess and solitaire are helpful as well. They get the mind active and when your mental skills are challenged there is no time to think about troubles and the stress they cause.

Though these games help to manage stress, the one problem is that it invariably only works while playing the game. They are great for managing stress, but long term solutions must be incorporated as well.

the best things one can do is to eat a healthy, balanced diet, get some exercise and focusing on the positive aspects of life, rather than the negative. A great thing to do is to give yourself a pep talk every day when you wake up. If you tell yourself that you are going to have a great day, chances are things will not seem as bad when they do not go as planned.

Gifts for Loved Ones with Stress

We all have people in our lives who suffer from stress and anxiety. Often it is enough fior these people to know that they are loved and cared for, but sometimes, when life gets especially difficult, receiving a gift can uplift spirits and make the day a better one to be a part of. The best thing about giving stress relief gifts is that they are usually something the individual would not have thought of getting for themselves, but are also something that would help them to relax.

One of the best ideas for stress relief gifts is tea. There are some varieties of tea that have calming and soothing effects. Chamomile is often bought for this purpose. It is great for relaxation and for winding down at the end of the day. It may also help the individual to sleep better, which is one thing that stressed out people do not get a lot of. Lemongrass tea is alos known to help relax nerves and is good therapy before an exam, a job interview or a wedding ceremony.

Many bath products make great gifts for relieveing stress. Bubble bath and bath salts are both good choices, but the best choice is essential oils. These are plant extracts that are steam distilled. The end result is a strog aromatic oil. They can be used in the bath and will aid in the healing of the mind, body, soul and spirit.

Any one who has experienced stress in any form should have a stress ball. If an individual is stressed and does not have one than this is one of the best gifts to give. These can be taken and used anywhere, making them very versatile, even in the situation at hand.

There are many other things that can be given, but no matter what gift it is, the important thing is that the loved one knows that you are concerned for them and that you want to help them deal with it. Stress has been known to fastly become dangerous and can affect not only the stressed individual, but also all of those around them. If people we love are stressed, it is impotant to know that we care and are there for them. This may help them to keep their stress at a normal level.

Three Common Causes of Stress

Though stress comes in many shapes and forms, the majority of us get stressed out by the following three different causes of stress.

Workplace Stress

One of the leading causes of stress can be found at the workplace.  Considering that we spend a large amount of our lives working, this really comes as no surprise.

Depending on the type of work that you do and the environment that you work in, you may experience various severities of stress.  Stress from work can be both harmful physically and emotionally and in most cases is due to the work environment and situations that are not under your control.

Some of the simple things that you can do to relieve stress at work include taking time out of your day to stretch, laugh and take breaks outside of the office.  It is also important that you have some time off, so working overtime all the time is not advisable.

Relationships

Relationships can cause stress depending on how the relationship is.  While a healthy relationship can be beneficial for stress reduction, if there is tension in the relationship, then stress typically increases.

Some simple ways to reduce relationship based stress is to make time for personal relationships, and listen first instead of just reacting.  Often by taking some time before committing to a reaction can help the relationship and help keep stress to a minimum as well.

Lifestyle Choices

Unhealthy lifestyle choices are also a major cause of stress.  Due to our increasingly busy lives, sometimes choices are made that are not health for us such as neglecting exercise, eating well, or getting enough sleep.  These choices can increase the stress in our lives very easily.

But with healthier choices, and slight changes to lifestyle choices (such as getting more sleep), usually stress due to lifestyle choices can be decreased.

Irrespective of what the sources of stress are in your life, you need to acknowledge what they are, take control of them, and relieve your stress by living a more relaxed life.
